JOE GILFORD has been a writer, producer and director in theater, film & TV. He is the original screenwriter of the fact-based feature film Mob Town (2019) starring David Arquette and Jennifer Esposito. He is a two-time recipient of Alfred P. Sloane Foundation grants for playwriting about science for Danny’s Brain, on football concussions and The Radio Boys the true story of Edwin Armstrong and the invention of FM Radio. He is the winner of a New York Emmy Award for his documentary work on public TV. His plays have been produced in New York and regionally. His play Finks about the 1950s TV/Radio blacklist of the McCarthy Era was critically acclaimed, a NY Times Critics Pick, and nominated for an Off-Broadway Alliance Best New Play award and a Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Play. Finks was videotaped live for Lincoln Center’s Theater on Film & Video collection as well as produced for radio by the Radio Drama Network. Finks has been produced regionally including TheaterWorks Silicon Valley and The Rogue Machine, Los Angeles. The play is published by Dramatists Play Service. Since 1999 Joe has taught screenwriting at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts’ Undergraduate Film & TV program.
