Embedded/back end/mobile software engineer with over 20 years of experience in the industry.
I started working with the iPhone when Apple released the first SDK in 2008. I have mostly played with it on side projects, as I worked in C++ on Unix and Linux in various roles. I started playing with Swift when it first came out, and began using SwiftUI in lieu of UIKit in September of 2019. I have been working on an app, Music Matters (musicmatters.band) for a while now, with limited time, it's taken a lot longer than planned.
My software development experience started at Boeing when I realized that if one of their regular layoff cycles sent me packing my experiences were not very marketable. At that point, I realized that my favorite classes in college involve programming, so I took some Boeing off-hours courses and made a transition into a team that did software in my organization.
My first project involved communicating with an airplane on the ground so it could be "flown" while on the ground. I've also worked in cellular location services, especially 911 call routing and dispatching, 787 flight test data processing, P-8A tactical Data links development testing, an indoor mapping app for iPhone, online travel services and messaging middleware for Positive Train Control.
