I currently work as the lead contributing copy editor at SmarterTravel (a TripAdvisor company), the largest online travel resource for inspirational destination content, travel news and advice, and travel deals. In this position, I copyedit all feature articles and most blogs for SmarterTravel, including lengthy destination pieces and shorter experiential stories; in addition, I proofread design PDFs, copyedit e-newsletter content, and copyedit flash sales and travel deals, among other things. Our office is located in Boston.

Before working at SmarterTravel, I worked as a copy editor at Boston-based Aptara, a publishing-services company that works with major publishing houses, including Pearson, Penguin Group, and Houghton Mifflin Harcourt. While at Aptara, I copyedited textbooks (both digital and print) as well as test booklets and other educational materials.

Before moving to Boston, I lived and worked in New York City and Chapel Hill, North Carolina. While in New York, I worked at Penguin Young Readers Group, starting out as a publicity assistant and moving into a position as an editorial assistant. While at PYRG, I worked with children’s books ranging from picture books to middle-grade and YA books. It was during this time, as an editorial assistant in PYRG’s Razorbill imprint, that I began to hone my proofreading and copyediting skills.

I graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2007 with a BA in English. I attended a post-graduate publishing course at the University of Denver’s Publishing Institute, where I earned a certificate in publishing. A few short months after graduating from the Publishing Institute, I began my first post-college job at Penguin Young Readers Group.
