I find meaning in adding value to others through training and professional development.
During my twelve years as a public educator, I realized my strength was in designing instruction. When I discovered instructional design as a career several years ago, I knew I wanted to shift my focus in that direction. I completed an instructional design certificate through the University of Wisconsin-Stout in December. I found that it was a nice addition to my bachelor’s and master’s in education and would help me refine my skills in instructional design.
I also completed a semester-long internship in instructional design. My task was to convert an instructor-led training on college course design into an eLearning course. I designed a five module, 70 slide course using Adobe Captivate. I also used Powtoon to design two video vignettes and used Adobe Photoshop to create avatars. This internship was a work-remotely project, and my program director can attest to the fact that I finished every milestone in advance of the deadlines. My final project, along with other artifacts from my certificate program can be viewed in my ePortfolio at www.karaerlandson.wordpress.com.
I am now the owner of my own instructional design business, Down the Block Designs for Learning, which can be found at www.downtheblockdesign.wordpress.com.
