Polishing Picture Books for Authors and Illustrators
I’ve been fascinated by words and pictures since I was a kid. In fact, my favorite thing to do on a Saturday afternoon was to write and draw picture books. As I got older, I won every spelling bee in my elementary school, and even took a prize in a writing competition in my high school. (I don’t mean I won it. I mean I took it. The real winner still laments about it on Facebook.)
After majoring in communications and English, I spent the last couple of decades writing, editing, and creative directing for business-to-business and consumer-focused companies all over the world. I’ve written hundreds of marketing promotions, web site articles and content, blog posts, and more. I even wrote a book that was published by Dearborn Trade in 2001, Permission-Based E-mail Marketing that Works, that focused on creative writing and development for online promotions. It became a best-seller among business marketers and actually still sells on Amazon today.
Over the last few years, my focus has been back to picture books. I write, critique, and edit them… and I love the job. While I can’t guarantee that you’ll be published, I CAN tell you that your manuscript will be more tightly-plotted with a strong focus on character, story arc, and individual words.
You’ll find me super-efficient, deadline-oriented, reasonably-priced, and just about any other hyphenated adjective that you might be able to think of.
