A motley worker with knowledge of a wide range of topics and a desire to meet your writing, proofreading, and voiceover needs!
I'm an Iowa farm girl with a strange mix of talents and experiences. My first steady job was working for a family friend at his musical instrument repair shop when I was in high school. Now, almost twenty years later, I still help him out when I have free time. I worked for my university's Public Safety Department all through college, first as a Student Patrol member, then as a dispatcher. After college, I taught high school Spanish for nine years (with one year of substitute teaching in the middle of that when I first realized that I didn't know if I wanted to be a teacher forever and I quit my job without a plan).
Now I've decided to quit teaching again to pursue other interests which include writing, farming/gardening, community theatre, music, playing volleyball, and exploring the world (locally and internationally, when I have the funds). Unfortunately, most of those things don't make me much (if any) money. My goal for now is to piece together a living, working for my dad on the family farm, substitute teaching, helping kids develop behavioral skills (as an in-home counselor), and doing freelance work in writing, proofreading, and voiceover work until I find my niche...which, I realize, may end up being to do a combination of those things.
If I thought I could make a decent living as a musician/actress in this little part of Iowa, I might consider it. I performed in eight different plays and musicals at local community theaters in a span of two years (after moving back to a place that actually HAS community theater), playing everyone from Mayzie La Bird (Seussical) to Mrs. Peacock (Clue) to Mitch Mahoney/Olive's Mom (The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee) to Mrs. Corry (Mary Poppins). I love using my voice to add different dimensions to the characters I have the honor of bringing to life, and I'm hoping to get some experience in voiceover work. I've listened to FAR too many audiobooks that were practically ruined for me by the people who read them.
