Counselor in Communications

I have been professionally editing, proofreading and writing copy since before I graduated from high school, some 30 years ago. My ability to make copy clear, correct, concise, comprehensible and consistent has been an asset throughout my broad-based career. I began as a teen editor of the Battle Creek (MI) Enquirer and News Youth Today Page. After earning a BA in journalism at Michigan State University, I served as a newspaper magazine feature writer/editor at the Sandusky (OH) Register. I was quickly promoted to news editor. A six-piece investigative feature I wrote about the Ohio penal system landed me at The Associated Press. I later joined the Oakland Press (Pontiac MI) as a government beat reporter. A career change took me to shopping center marketing, where I began writing, designing/ creating retail print and radio advertising, and was introduced to public relations and strategic marketing. Another career change took me to serving several public relations and advertising agencies, where I wrote/ edited everything from news releases to brochure copy, and from speeches to outdoor campaigns, even holiday catalogues. At the peak of my professional career, I was editing and writing technical articles, user brochures, sell sheets and other marketing materials, for global clients at a marketing communications agency.

I have recently joined the world of entrepreneurs and started this online professional freelance copyediting/proofreading and writing business. Here I will continue to edit copy to be clear, correct, concise, comprehensible and consistent.
