After school, 31 years ago age 12 I started by handling mailing of invoices and actioning purchase orders in a digital supplies warehouse. I moved into warehouse operations which provided a understanding of logistics, inventory management (including consumable tech), and operational efficiency, mastering tasks from forklift operation to utilizing Swift OS for sorting, receiving, and shipping electronics and associated media. Simultaneously, my passion for creative technology blossomed. At 13, I was introduced to the captivating world of Drum an Bass Music and electronic music production, learning to optimize software production. By 16, I had a solid grasp of audio editing, sampling, sound generation within DAWs, encoding with data tags, multi-track sequencing, and MIDI automation. Unknowingly, this exploration was building crucial skills in creative computing and hardware emulation.
My experiences then diversified significantly. Immersing myself in Wellington's vibrant hospitality scene, I worked in kitchens and bars, honed sales techniques, and even contributed to suicide prevention through telephone fundraising. A voracious reader, my intellectual curiosity spanned Aural Harmonics, Bio-psychology, Economics, Electronics, Food, History, Arts, and Business. This broad knowledge base naturally led to designing a webpage for a catering business, where I thrived in developing the end-to-end system from concept to execution. This culminated in becoming a part-owner of a successful hospitality business for five years. This venture provided invaluable transferable skills in people management, team collaboration (both within and leading teams), event planning and preparation across a range of scales, I.T. development and integration, payroll, budget management, and creative/logical problem resolution. I developed the ability to define and achieve clear goals for myself, staff, and the company, consistently meeting business objectives.
