“Act boldly, and unseen forces will come to your aid.” ~Dorthea Brande
Over the past several years I’ve been on a bit of a journey. I have been slowly, but steadily transitioning from ‘office’ type jobs to the freelance/remote world. During that journey, I have come to believe the quote above and adopted it as an axiom to live by.
My journey has been a very interesting and great learning experience. Perhaps the most important lesson I've learned recently, and in life in general, is that I have to be me. Otherwise, I will not truly succeed. I’ve always had an entrepreneurial spirit and take ownership of any role I am in.
Not to brag, ahem, but I’m good at anything I set my mind to do. Throughout my career, I have always been the one to jump right in and take challenges head-on. Change and uncertainty don’t bother me, in fact, I welcome them and the opportunities they bring to learn and grow. Moreover, I am determined and relish the thought of solving problems and being someone people can turn to when they have problems.
Most recently working at Apple I’ve learned more about communication with clients, communication styles, and developing meaningful customer relationships.
Working as a freelance writer, I’ve learned to use the tools needed to successfully engage and collaborate with both clients and customers no matter where I am and under a myriad of circumstances.
Looking further back, my experience at a large financial institution taught me a lot about presenting myself and what I am offering in a way my clients and customers can relate to. I also learned a lot about presenting data and information in clear and concise ways.
I may not have the direct experience that many freelancers have. I do not see that as a setback or something I need to compensate for. I truly believe I have a unique background and a beneficial set of experiences that make me well suited to excel in the freelance world.
