Access, Excel, T-Sql, Plsql, VB developer with significant experience in data migration. Former math and computer science instructor. Relatively little Web development experience.
Work career began in the lemon fields of Southern California, USA. After college, I taught math, computer science, and electronics in various U.S. high schools and technical colleges. I was a communications/electronics officer in the Army for 3 years. I worked as an electronics technician for 2 years. I spent 3 years as a hardware specialist, help desk, and PC support person. I then spent 20 years as a software engineer. Initially, Primary projects required the use of Oracle db and developer tools. Most significant projects were centered around data migration. Later years were spent using Access and Excel as front ends (with VBA coding in modules and forms) and Oracle as a back end. When the company I worked for began migrating their tools I began learning VB .net and converted several of our existing tools to VB .net. I also re-coded a few client-server apps and made them Web based. I have some but very limited experience with Web development. I developed software in both business and engineering environments. I try to be as brutally honest as I can and also expect that from those I work with and for.
Work Terms
I work from my house. I work cheaply. Initial estimates are made by specifying a range rather than a specific amount. Once requirements for the project are specified in great detail and most unknowns resolved, a specific amount within the range will be quoted. I will try to make myself available 24/7. I am looking for projects that require less than 100 hours worth of programming effort. If requirements are added after quote is firmed up and we cannot agree on the added cost of the additional requirements I reserve the right to leave the project.
