Great documentation is the result of developing and applying three principles:
1. Developing a thorough understanding of your audience.
2. Developing a thorough understanding of how your product or service fulfills a need.
3. Creating a documentation plan to provide just enough information at just the right time and place.

That's where a technical writer comes in.

Technical writers and communicators provide various commodities of the "Total User Experience," from marketing, sales, training, and customer support. This can include a wide range of end-user collateral, such as online help systems, training guides and tutorials, and support documentation.

A technical writer can also improve the internal communications in your development process. Examples include producing clear product specifications, developing use case analysis, diagramming architecture and data flow, and assisting with user interface design, or quality assurance.
