My mission is to create concise and professional content that communicates effectively to your targeted audience.
I have written news articles, features, press releases, documentary film scripts, catalog copy, and training manuals as both a freelancer and paid staffer. Since 1979, I have worked in a wide range of positions from a weekly reporter, freelance feature writer, and industry tech and copy writer. My work has appeared in The Chicago Tribune Sunday Magazine, Western Horseman, The Denver Post, Denver's Westward, The Houston Chronicle, and dozens of smaller markets. In the 1980s I published a book on police and fire department scuba teams and also wrote and edited a newsletter and wrote training manuals for the scuba industry. I have covered topics ranging from murder trials and substance abuse treatment to rodeos, equestrian events and agricultural issues. My most recent projects involved IT manuals and a documentary film script about archaeological looting for the Bureau of Reclamation. I also wrote and edited newsletters for IT government contractors during a ten-year stint as a subcontractor with the USDA.
Work Terms
My time is currently flexible allowing me to give full attention to your project, and I can work with a short turnaround time provided I have access to the resources I need - interview contacts, background information, clear instructions, and a solid identification of the intended audience for the resulting publication or online venue.
My preference is to write for general audiences, including young readers. My forte is distilling industry or trade jargon into content that is easily grasped and interesting to read for such audiences.
I'm comfortable communicating via email and/or phone.
