Journalist seeks to rid world of average content
Journalist and copy editor with experience at national newspapers both in the UK and Turkey. I have been living in Turkey for the last two years, learning the language, trying, in vain, to explain why even the best kebab is not going to make me give up vegetarianism and traveling as much as possible.
I have a degree and master's in creative writing and my short stories and essays have appeared in a number of publications. Since graduating, I have worked in digital marketing, journalism and online content production. My experience includes time as the assistant editor of two online arts magazines, later becoming a copy editor at the Guardian in the UK followed by a Turkish newspaper. I am a Huffington Post blogger and started my career with an internship in digital marketing at a publishers, where I blogged and was responsible for social media.
I currently write articles and opinion pieces on current affairs, culture and the arts for national newspapers. I try to keep things light and entertaining, but at the same time I am fiercely passionate about political matters and equality. Living in Turkey where the press is under constant strain from government crackdowns, you have to get creative with how to make a point without hitting too many sensitive areas. Yet my engaging style led to a semi-regular opinion writing slot in the Guardian and in March I was one of the top 5 most read writers of the month. I have also appeared on radio and TV internationally to discuss the situation in Turkey.
Additionally, I edit works, often PhD and master's theses, from non-native English speakers as well as translated pieces.
I am a pretty easy going and fun person, but with a strong work ethic and intense love of writing. Get in touch!
