Your Ancestors in Context
I have thirty years' experience in genealogy, 15 of them in reference at a public library, where I consulted with patrons, taught basic genealogy classes, and was in charge of the local history and genealogy collections. I earned Boston University's Certificate of Genealogical Research in 2022, and I hope to pursuce BCG certification in the coming year.
I came to genealogy from history, my first love. I believe genealogy only makes sense when we know something about the world our ancestors inhabited, and I try to analyse genealogical evidence in that context.
While my son was young, I was a freelance copyeditor and proofreader, skills that have continued to be useful in my work as a librarian and a genealogist. I am the historian for the Macalister clan worldwide and for several years maintained a website and blog related to this clan: https://macalisterhistory.com.
I belong to the Canada Chapter of the Association of Professional Genealogists, to the United Empire Loyalists Association of Canada (where I am assistant genealogist for the Sir Guy Carleton branch), the Palatines to America German Genealogy Society, and the Society of Antiquaries of Scotland.
