Madeleine Vala is a Full Professor of English in the College of General Studies at the University of Puerto Rico, Rio Piedras, where she has been teaching for 17 years. She earned her B.A. in English from Duke University, her Ph.D. in English from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, and is the recipient of two Fulbright scholarships. She has published articles on Edith Wharton, Henry James, and the Victorian supernatural, and is the editor with Francoise Ghillebaert of the volume Water Imagery in George Sand’s Work (2018). At the UPR, she teaches first-year literature and writing, as well as undergraduate courses on travel literature, poetry, and Victorian literature. Dr. Vala collaborated with the College Board since 2015, and managed the PNA exam for the English Test Development team.
