Work Terms
Basic Concepts
Typography: The art and technique of arranging type, including typeface selection, point size, line length, line-spacing (leading), letter-spacing (tracking), and adjusting the space within letter pairs (kerning).
Color Theory: The study of colors and their combinations, including concepts like complementary, analogous, and triadic color schemes.
Layout: The arrangement of visual elements on a page. It involves principles like balance, contrast, alignment, proximity, and repetition.
Composition: The placement or arrangement of visual elements in a work of art, as distinct from the subject of a work.
Resolution: The detail an image holds. Higher resolution means more image detail.
Vector Graphics: Graphics created using mathematical equations rather than pixels, allowing for infinite scalability without loss of quality.
Raster Graphics: Images made up of a grid of pixels, each with a fixed color value. Common formats include JPEG, PNG, and GIF.
Design Process
Brief: A document provided by the client outlining the objectives, target audience, and requirements for the design project.
Concept: The initial idea or visual solution to a design problem, often presented as sketches or rough drafts.
Mockup: A high-fidelity, static representation of a design, used to demonstrate how the final product will look.
Wireframe: A basic, visual guide used in web design to suggest the structure of a webpage without any design elements or content.
Prototype: An interactive, working model of a design used to test functionality and user experience before final production.
Revision: Changes made to a design based on feedback from clients or stakeholders.
Final Deliverable: The completed design project handed over to the client in the agreed-upon formats.
Technical Terms
CMYK: Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, and Key (Black) - the color model used in color printing.
RGB: Red, Green, Blue - the color model used for screens and digital displays.
