For the past 23 I have worked on and off as an executive assistant, primarily in the oil and gas sector.

Five years ago I decided to stay home permanently having had my 5th child. As my children continued to grow I began to feel as though something was missing. I enjoyed working in an office, I missed the social interaction, the motivation to succeed and even the need to problem solve under pressure. I have taken a professional approach to my household and organized calendars, drawers, closets, rearranged furniture and developed so many to- do lists it brings tears to my husband's eyes. Vacuuming and watching for sales have become an obsession and seemingly overnight I have become a “Stepford wife” and lost parts of myself that I have truly missed. But I couldn’t, and can’t give up being a full time mom.

I still love waking up in the morning to decisions like “Where would a tent made out of blankets work best?” but I’m also excited about turning on my computer and feeding my need to interact with adults and contribute to professional society.

As a VA I can manage projects, make decisions and solve problems with the click of a mouse. Yet if my children need me, I’m there.

I’m happier, more fulfilled and have something to bring to the table along with a home cooked meal.
