I want to write for a living, and I believe my experience and training so far has prepared me to do this.
I’m seeking a position as a copywriter, technical writer, or editor.
My experience in education has trained me to be a clear communicator. As an ESL teacher, I am always thinking about what my audience knows and how to use language in a way that my audience will understand. Basically, my job as a middle school teacher is to take information, reformat it based on what I know about how my audience’s brains work, and communicate it in a way that is understandable, interesting, relatable, and memorable. All skills needed to be an effective writer.
I also have a strong background in writing. I majored in English at UC Davis, wrote a 40 page research paper for my MA in Education at UC Berkeley, and write creatively as a hobby. After teaching grammar for the past few summers at SAT boot camp, I’ve accumulated a lot of standard English grammar knowledge and will catch those grammar errors (but I won’t make you feel bad about them).
