I possess the specialized skills as a writer and would make a valuable asset to any team team. As my resume indicates, I have a year of experience working as the opinion editor at The Commonwealth Times, Virginia Commonwealth University’s student newspaper, and six months experience working as a sports assistant at The Free Lance-Star. The experience I gained from being the opinion editor at The Commonwealth Times includes setting out a weekly budget of stories, copy editing content, overseeing page design and maintaining the paper’s ideological stance. My time as sports assistant has given me experience working on sports agate pages, writing briefs on local high school games as well as occasional stories for other sections in the paper. I was introduced to The Free Lance-Star’s then editor, Dick Hammerstrom, who was assigned as my client through Capital New Service, a class I took at VCU which allowed me to report on the General Assembly and the stories I wrote were sent out as a wire service to small papers throughout the state. The time I spent communicating with Hammerstrom developed a professional relationship which eventually translated into my part time position as sport assistant.
