Accurate translations, in an appropriate style, produced to deadline
I am a native British English speaker, who graduated in July 2014 with a First Class Honours Degree in French Studies and Italian Studies from Lancaster University. Over the course of my final year of study, I gained considerable practice in translation as part of my final year studies, and received very positive feedback for this work, which I also enjoyed a great deal . I also wrote a dissertation focussing on the translation into English of Saint-Exupéry's "Le Petit Prince", and my markers praised my translation sample as original and of a standard appropriate for publication. Both of my tutors, Ms Michela Masci in Italian and Dr Delphine Grass in French, encouraged me to pursue translation as a career and I currently hold an offer at the University of East Anglia to study a Master's degree in literary translation from 2015-16. I am a member of the Emerging Translators' Network, the main online community for relatively new literary translators.
I am extremely self-motivated, and enthusiastic about starting a career in this field, and have created a blog at https://plus.google.com/u/0/109756945105066822170/about, where I publish translations of original literary works, working between French and English and between Italian and English. In addition to this, I have translated four highly challenging literary texts from French into English, all of which will be published as stand-alone books or eBooks in 2015: the anti-militarist satirical novel 'War 2.0', the 17th century monastic and devotional text 'The Practice of the Presence of God', the 1800 vaudeville play 'Rembrandt', and 'Epidermis', a tragicomic short story about madness and sexual pervision. I succeeded in meeting all my clients’ demands, and the authors of both the novel and short story have agreed to a long-term collaboration, with me as their chosen translator for future work. I am honest, and will only apply for jobs where I feel confident I would be capable of producing a native-level translation.
