Database Software Developer

I am an independent business application software developer, having developed applications for various industries over many years. I live in the beautiful town of Gordons Bay, near Cape Town, South Africa.

My current environment of choice is the Oracle database, using the oracle APEX (APlication EXpress - https://apex.oracle.com/en) development environment. This is a ‘low code’ environment, which means I can produce stable database applications in less time than it would take using many other tools. The Oracle XE database with Apex is available (with some small limitations) in a free version for development and implementation, which is another plus when dealing with clients who may have a limited budget.

I have worked with various other tools over the years - Informix on Linux servers, Oracle Forms, Oracle Reports, Oracle PL/SQL and Oracle Data Modeller, Cobol on Linux servers and Clarion on Windows servers.

The types of applications I have developed are quite varied, ranging from medical aid and pension scheme administration to vehicle transport management. I generally develop software from concept to completion. Throughout development, I like to work closely with my client's to ensure that the finished product accurately meets their requirements.

Work Terms

Because I am a freelancer, I am fairly flexible regarding when and how many hours I work. I tend to adjust according to circumstances at any given time. For larger projects, I generally break the project down into manageable phases. After each phase has been completed and accepted, the client pays for that phase and the next phase begins. I work very closely with clients throughout the development process, making sure that my clients are thoroughly involved and able to add their input on an on going basis. I find this leads to successful projects that most accurately meet a client's requirements.
