About

Passionate Project and Product Manager combining communication skills and mindfulness practices

I am Nicole Bartko, and I bring a unique blend of IT expertise and spiritual practice to my work. With 13 years of experience in IT projects, I have developed not only technical knowledge and leadership skills but also an understanding of the importance of communication and mindfulness in the professional context.

IT Projects and Professional Experience
As a project and product manager, I have successfully led numerous IT projects. I excel at handling deadlines, project tensions, and risk analyses—all crucial aspects. However, my true focus is on the people: the employees, the leadership, and how we create and collaborate together. I firmly believe that mutual cooperation, open and transparent communication, and a healthy culture around mistakes are the keys to success.

Mentoring and Women Circles
In addition to my technical career, I am dedicated to mentoring and supporting others on their journey to personal and professional growth. My women circles provide a space for women to connect, heal, and grow. These circles foster deeper understanding and stronger connections with oneself and others, supported by mindful practices and open conversations.

A Holistic Approach
My passion lies in bridging the worlds of technology and spirituality. Through my mindfulness practices, I bring a new perspective to IT teams and projects, helping to utilize resources more efficiently and create a balanced work environment. My experience shows that this holistic approach not only leads to successful project execution but also to a more fulfilling and sustainable work culture.

My Professional Path
You could say my career path has been anything but conventional. With over 13 years of experience in IT project management, I'm passionate about what I do—but getting here was far from a straight line. Originally, I studied Asian and African Studies and once wrote a paper on heavy metal music in Indonesia. Between the ages of 20 and 30, you were more likely to find me on the road than in an office, working in hospitality and enjoying the adventure of travel. It wasn’t until I was 28 that I decided to settle down, finish my studies, and somehow found myself in IT as a working student. Since then, I’ve furthered my knowledge through intensive self-study and successfully brought what I’ve learned into the IT world. For me, it’s not just about technical success—people and collaboration are at the heart of everything I do. Projects really come to life when we find creative solutions together, and I place great importance on openness, empathy, and, above all, a good dose of joy in working together.

2. How I work

a.Team-Oriented Project Phases & Agile Methods
In my work, I place great importance on developing projects in collaboration with the team and the client. Every project I lead goes through the following phases, ensuring that all stakeholders are actively involved:
Initiation: In this phase, I listen closely to understand the goals and needs of the team and the client. Together, we define the project objectives, scope, and key stakeholders. An intensive kickoff workshop lays the foundation for the project.
Planning: In close coordination with the team, I create detailed project plans and make proactive suggestions. Risk management is central and is openly discussed within the team and with the client to develop joint
strategies.
Execution: During execution, I work in a structured and solution-oriented manner. Every meeting has a clear agenda, and I ensure that the team stays informed and focused. Agile methods like SCRUM or Kanban
help us to respond flexibly to changes. I communicate honestly about the project status and work closely with the team and the client to address challenges early.
Closure: At the end of the project, I conduct a thorough evaluation where we openly discuss successes and areas for improvement. Together, we document "Lessons Learned" to ensure continuous improvement for
future projects.

b. Honest and Structured Communication
Honesty is key for me. I address problems and risks early to find solutions with the team and the client. Communication is crucial, especially when it comes to changes in project scope. I ensure the team adapts quickly and the client
understands the impact.

c. Team-Vision Workshops
With a new team & new customer, I like to start with a vision workshop. This helps us develop a shared vision with clear values and goals, laying the foundation for our collaboration.
