Professional trade and academic editor: I can help you cultivate your dissertation, journal article, creative manuscript, and promotional material for publication
My professional editing experience entails trade, academic, and freelance publishing. I have 25 years of professional teaching experience at the levels of secondary education (Woodside High School, Woodside, California), higher education (College of New Rochelle, New Rochelle; Pace University, New York; University of Washington, Seattle), and continuing education (Fordham University, New York; 92nd Street Y, New York). All my years as literature, writing, and language arts educator contribute to my editing expertise. I have a PhD in English and MFA in Fiction, both from the University of Washington.
My editing projects are enhanced by a teacher's sensibility, which I define as scrupulous attention to structure and mechanics, coupled with sensitivity to the distinct goal and appropriate register of each text. I respect each writer's desire for error-free prose that is not generic.
My editing experience is as follows: I solicited, revised, and proofread scholarly and literary essays for two anthologies, Dylan at Play (Cambridge Scholars, 2011), and Tearing the World Apart: Bob Dylan in the 21st Century (University of Mississippi, forthcoming).
I solicited, revised, proofread, and copyedited scholarly and creative writing for the print journal, Montague Street: The Art of Bob Dylan (2009-2011), for which I was publisher and editor.
As freelance editor, I have specialized in revision and proofreading for ESL graduate students and faculty in the area of finance. In this capacity, I have worked with dissertation material and journal articles. Titles and authors are available upon request.
From 1998-1999, I was Editorial Coordinator for Harvard Business School Press, Cambridge. In this position, I assisted with the revision of contracted manuscripts.
From 1983-1987, I worked as Editorial Assistant and Assistant Editor for Warner Books, Pinnacle Books, and Avon Books, trade publishers in New York. I solicited, revised, edited, proofread, and copyedited manuscripts
Work Terms
I can turn 10 pages of text around in 3 hours. My basic fee is $10/hour, and I prefer to negotiate fees for longer texts. I prefer to clarify the writer's needs and intentions before beginning an edit.
I respond promptly and efficiently to emails throughout the day.
