PARASKEVIE (EVIE) KATEVATIS
Evie has always had an inexplicable obsession with Italian art and culture from a young age. After receiving a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Emily Carr in 1993, she continued her studies in Florence, Italy for a year at Studio Arts Centers International, obtaining a Post-Baccalaureate Degree in 1994. As a student, she was invited to exhibit her work in a group show at a gallery for the first time in Florence.
Although Evie has worked in various mediums, her passion will always be oil painting. She was lucky enough to travel to Europe on multiple occasions, visiting galleries and museums from a young age. The Renaissance and Mannerist Masters as well as the Surrealists, have always served as the main inspiration, and their influence is evident in her work. The combination of traditional techniques and dream-like images are an infinite source of ideas. There is still so much to learn from the past. It is a never ending journey.
Evie has worked as a scenic painter and sculptor for the Vancouver Playhouse, various TV commercials, and in the film industry on shows such as the X-Flies. She and her husband Dan Dittrick started a mural business called DK ART in 2001. Their work can be seen in Athens, Greece and various locations across Western Canada. She worked as a playground sculptor creating playful characters and structures for 2 years until 2006, when Evie and her husband started Century Monuments Inc, designing and manufacturing granite and bronze cemetery headstones. Evie also sculpts models for sand casting custom bronze markers.
