As a developer, I am the sort that never stops thinking about a problem. I really enjoy finding a solution that make something either work faster or more cleanly.
I have been accused of using long variable names. I started out my development life trying to decipher undocumented code with generic variable names like i, j, k, n. I decided it doesn't cost me anything to spell out what a variable is. Some code I wrote 20+ years ago is still used in production systems. That said, I don't mind killing my own code if there is a better way.
I enjoy playing with new tech and spend 10-15 hours per week looking at new tech. But I have also try to avoid the pitfall of the shiny new thing just because its cool -- nothing is worse than orphaned code that can't be maintained due to missing tools or no one having the skills.
