If you can convey to me what you want, I can write it in appropriate language.
My work experience over time has progressed from journalism to technical writing. I began my career as a journalist, where I learned interviewing, writing clearly, concisely and quickly on a deadline and use of publishing technologies.
That led to a master’s degree in journalism and graduate work in public policy, where I learned research methodology, statistics and data analysis using various statistical packages running on an IBM mainframe. During this period, I also worked part-time as a typesetter for a small printing company using a CompuGraphic typesetter. I taught college-level courses for two years. When I realized the public policy studies were signaling a career shift instead of augmentation, I abandoned the doctoral degree with only comprehensive exams and dissertation outstanding.
My affinity for technology, including various word processing, spreadsheet and database programs, led into technology-intensive work for non-profit and not-for-profit organizations, where I progressed from low-level database management to technical support and email administration. Then I moved into technical writing, which utilized all the skills gained as a journalism, policy analyst and computer technician.
Between major contracts, I provide technical writing, editing or related services to small businesses and friends as the opportunity permits and expand my career options through independent study. Currently, I am learning Python programming. I developed and maintain my own web site, www.dragonsedge.com, for which I now use Drupal 7 for content management, and for which I blog about technical writing and issues related to Python, Raspberry Pi and Linux/UNIX.
