I have worked with youth and children through volunteering and work throughout my life. I found teaching to be a natural choice for my skills and interests in this, as well as in the subjects of history and computer science. I currently work at Christian Life School in Fort St. John, BC. Here I have gained experience in managing a classroom, planning lessons, and implementing lessons, all from within the context of a Christian worldview. I am passionate about cultivating a love for learning in students. I am also passionate about equipping them to serve God in the future. I believe the Classical Christian model is a great opportunity for this. I desire long term to obtain a position teaching at a Classical Christian School. It is superior in its reading of primary resources from a Christian perspective. This way, students can understand the ideas that have shaped our world, as well as where they are correct and where they are not. The classical model also logically progresses so the students can move from a basic understanding to forming their own ideas. I also appreciate the integration of subjects, specifically the combination of history, philosophy, political science, and literature. I believe Christians should be able to utilize technology to the glory of God, and understand it as a tool that can be used both for evil and good.
Beginning in August 2015 I will be teaching at a school called United Christian School in Camp Verde, Arizona. The school just began using a classical Christian curriculum during the 2014-2015 year. I will be helping to start a high school program for grades 9-12 for the first time, teaching integrated humanities (history, theology, Bible, literature, philosophy). They will be using both online studies and in person teaching and discussions since it is the first year running the program.
