Seasoned Grant Writer & "HuffPost" Blogger
I've had the pleasure of working in and supporting the nonprofit sector for 25 years now. Having held several executive positions at an $80 million/year international development organization, I've returned to independent consulting to have more hands-on experiences by helping both small and large organizations achieve their missions, be it through grant writing and fundraising or blogging and communications.
My clients to date have included: Development & Training Services, Inc. (dTS), HRC, IREX (the International Research & Exchanges Board), Juárez & Associates, NOVA Annandale Community College, Pennies on Purpose, Social Impact (SI), Women for Women International (WfWI), and World Learning, among others. I can provide references upon request.
As an avid and eclectic reader, I devour foreign policy articles, science fiction novels, and poetry with equal relish. And in addition to writing proposals, I'm also a regular contributor to the "Huffington Post" on international development, education, inclusion, and other issues. You can see my pieces here: https://www.huffingtonpost.com/author/randal-mason.
I'm passionate about travel and have been to numerous countries abroad for work and pleasure, including: Azerbaijan, the Czech Republic, Egypt, England, the Republic of Georgia, Jordan, Kosovo, Lebanon, Macedonia, Moldova, Morocco, Romania, Russia, Spain, Turkey, the UAE, Ukraine, and Uzbekistan. I also enjoy exploring the U.S., from taking in the vibrant streets of Manhattan at night to curling up with a good book at a B&B in the Blue Ridge Mountains.
Work Terms
I generally maintain flexible hours. Having worked in international development, I'm used to collaborating with people across multiple time zones.I enjoy working in teams, whether that's taking direction from others or helping lead busy proposal teams and communications staff. I typically communicate via Skype (user name "randalmason") or phone, but let me know your preferred method.
I'm comfortable discussing an hourly rate or going with a flat rate with one or two milestones, depending upon the length of the project.
