Freelance Writer/Editor and Research Consultant
I am a freelance writer/editor that specializes in health and science topics. While, the passion I have for health, fitness, nutrition, and science cannot be overstated, that was not always the case. Growing up, I was what some would consider a "junk food enthusiast" and it wasn't until I started competing in track and field my junior year of high school that a switch was flipped. It was certainly a process, but I ditched the cheeseburgers and late night video game binges for salads and early morning runs (though, I can still be caught on Xbox Live every now and then).
Ultimately, this lead to a strong interest in fitness, nutrition, and health science, and I pursued a B.S. in Exercise Science. Because the nerd in me is strong, I also took an obscene amount of mathematics coursework during my undergraduate time.
After working as a personal trainer for a couple of years, and in other fields, such as medical writing, I finally got a chance to combine all of my passions in one place as a clinical research associate. Combining my love for health and medical sciences, mathematics, and, writing, I was finally in my element.
For over 5 years, I have worked on many different studies at world class institutions such as Massachusetts General Hospital and the University of California, San Francisco, and continued to write for varied audiences, because, honestly, what good is the data if no one knows what you're talking about? Throughout my career, I have picked up and improved invaluable research, writing, and statistics/analysis skills.
While the stereotype that scientists aren't great writers is out there, I for one, am making sure to prove it wrong and help people out along the way.
