I have a degree in psychology and English. I was an avid reader and writer while I was growing up. I had plans to become an English teacher; I even obtained a CELTA certificate to teach English as a second language. Instead of teaching, I found myself captivated by editing while I was studying in New Zealand for my English degree. Ever since I finished my studies, I continued to edit written content. I was eventually hired to edit advertising and website content, company reports, and proposals. Over time, I've also become familiar with publishing books using Kindle Direct Publishing and creating ebooks using Kindle Create.
I currently have 7 years of editing experience. My work experience has trained my mind to notice the small details and to be aware of the different writing and formatting styles (Chicago Manual and APA) that authors may use. I believe in providing clients with quality work, which can be seen in my passion for improving people’s writing to the best of my ability.
Work Terms
Payment: I charge by the hour: $30/hr. A deposit of half the sum of the fee will be paid before any editing commences.
Scope of work: I offer copyediting and proofreading services. The process differs for both.
If your writing is mostly clean and does not require major editing, I will only proofread your work (correct superficial errors such as spelling, capitalisation, and grammar). If, however, your work has structural and written errors, I will copyedit before I can proceed to proofread your work. Copyediting may require us to go through a couple of drafts to improve the writing. Due to major changes, I will provide suggestions on how and where it requires improvement, and it is the author's/writer's responsibility to respond and edit the way they see fit for their work. I will provide support and open communication throughout the whole process. Once the edits have been made and no further major edits are required, then I will proceed to proofread the final draft. Take note, copyediting takes more time than proofreading. I may need 4 hours to copyedit a 2k word document, depending on the writing, and I may only need approximately 1 hour or less to proofread it.
Changes and Additions: Any additions or changes to the project will modify the Scope of Work, may change the due date, and may be billed as additional work. Changes made to material that has already been submitted to me for editing may be considered additional work. I will keep you informed of additional work that is required or recommended and request your approval for any additional work, associated expenses, and change in the project deadline.
