Proactive case management to decrease cost of absenteeism. Trends analysis, strategic planning, policy design.
Richard Brown has been providing absence and disability management advice to businesses, health and welfare trusts, as well as government agencies since 2002. Having worked in the disability insurance industry as a case manager, team leader, and operations manager, Richard brings an experienced, independent, and knowledgeable perspective to attendance management issues and how cost and people management impacts organizations.
Throughout his practice in disability management, Richard has seen thousands of different cases. Each case is different, yet each success has commonalities. Successful return to work cases all involve early intervention, goal setting, and partnership between the employee, employer and providers. Employers who take proactive measures to reduce absences typically see the best results.
Richard’s goal is to help organizations struggling with absenteeism decrease the human and financial costs through analysis, strategic planning, and proactive organizational practices. He is also interested in the cultural and political influences on absenteeism, and providing advice on transformational shifts that have a huge impact.
Richard has a degree in Psychology from the University of Alberta, and holds a Group Benefits Associate (GBA) designation from the International Foundation of Employee Benefit plans.
While his travelling and working adventures have taken him to Africa, Europe, Asia, and North America including working stints in England, South Korea, and China, he has made Vancouver his home. Richard also enjoys hiking, skiing, good books, and days at the beach.
