Sales, marketing and business development.
My first job was digging post holes on my grandfather's ranch. At nine-years old I worked all summer in the South Texas sun digging ten miles of holes two and a half feet deep every ten-yards. 1,761 post holes at $1.55 per for a grand total of just obit $2,700 plus I was fed twice a day; beans, eggs and tortillas and coffe every morning and beans, rice, tortillas and whatever I shot the day before (and coffe) every night. And then, there was the sleeping out under a South Texas starry night, most of the summer with coyotes, armadillos and night birds for company.
Since then thirty some-years ago, I've always enjoyed hard work and found life's rewards that came along with that.
At age twenty-five, my father enlisted me into a professional sales organization. There I worked as an outside senior marketing sales representative providing advertising to businesses in Southern California. Quickly working my way up to top national sales, I earned my role as the exclusive provider for Nevada.
Unfortunately, as we all know; all good things must come to an end. With the market crash of 2005, I decided that it was time to find other adventures. And so I did! I traveled the world, volunteered with the American Red Cross where I served the needs of countless Americans suffering from disasters both far away and locally. I started three or four businesses got divorced, remarried, learned new skills, hiked across the Mojave desert, rescued a dog and lately have been challenging my baking skills as an artisan.
My life has come far from that of that long ago nine-year old boy but, I would not change a thing. I'm married to a great woman, have a good, solid family and as I found out recently; more than a couple of real friends. Ah yet, I feel it is time for more adventure. Don't hold my experience against me rather look at it as an opportunity to leverage.
I am Richard R. Rivas, Pastor, Bachaloriate, World Traveler, Explorer and Artisan Baker.
