When I took my first management position I was told “we don’t really use Excel in this department” and “you can’t make decisions based off numbers”. Decisions were made based on what the person at the top felt was best, determined almost solely by their experience. There was no proof for anything, just whatever seemed right at the time. One day I decided to try to figure out what a pivot table was. Three months later I built my first dashboard, tracking what previously had been untraceable or impossible.
