I believe that words have the power to transport people, and that the editorial challenge is to make the journey unique and memorable. Toward that end, I have been successful in devising creative approaches to cover even the stalest stories, turning a generic online entertainment page into a newsroom’s star category, and growing established reader communities as well as building them from scratch.
As a Senior Editor at Amazon, I have developed better customer-facing presentation, honed content based on improved metrics tracking, and expanded story promotion by experimenting with audience engagement approaches. As a result, I grew traffic to the books blog by 9% and Order Product Sales by more than 90% in 2013.
My roots are in arts and culture journalism, having earned my editing stripes at MTV.com. After a year as a TV critic in Colorado, I spent five years at a mid-sized New York newspaper as the Entertainment/Features Editor, working in print (where my section increased Friday circulation to nearly that of the Sunday edition) and online (where I tripled traffic to the entertainment pages in one quarter). At Mindspark, an IAC-owned digital product company, I managed the editorial calendar and fulfilled all of my team's direct messaging needs via onsite, blogs, email and social media -- growing communities around new and established products.
I hold an MA in Journalism and have worked professionally as a journalist/editor/writer for more than 15 years. My byline has appeared in such publications as the Village Voice, Time Out New York, Rolling Stone and MTV.
