Strategic storytelling to elevate your brand and elicit action
Roger Burks is a field- and project-tested writer, editor and communications strategist. He has served as Director of Communications for the Emory Global Health Institute, where he designed and directed a multi-tiered branding, communications, engagement and partnership strategy for a long-term Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation-supported global health project. Before that, he served as Online Communications Officer for the World Bank, managing communications for global practices including Transport, Information and Communication Technologies, and Public-Private Partnerships.
Burks has held roles as Online Managing Editor and Senior Writer for Mercy Corps, as well as a variety of editorial roles for CARE USA. He has also provided communications consulting and strategy for organizations including the International Rescue Committee, the Nike Foundation and the United Nations Foundation.
Over the course of 20 years as an international development writer and editor, he has traveled to more than 30 countries to report on a variety of challenges, successes and current events. Burks has been instrumental in developing websites, blogs and social media platforms, as well as training staff in a number of countries on documentary techniques. A graduate of the William Allen White School of Journalism and Mass Communications at the University of Kansas, Burks began his career as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Togo.
