About

I provide writing (story-telling) service in English and Marathi to clients over a 3 to 6 months, at a time.

I told my first story in childhood in Marathi to my mother who took it down and the school magazine published it with my name and photo.

My story-telling took a backseat until I established myself in a well-paying job in industry; but by 1978, I was back at it, becoming a part-time journalist for an English newspaper Nagpur Times, for which I wrote news-reports, features, film-reviews, & so on. One of my news-reports during this time was quoted in the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly.

As I was earning in my industry job, I did not compromise on writing and after a tiff, joined the Bombay newspaper "Sunday Observer" as a freelancer; for them I wrote on politics, farmers' movement, communal organizations and so on.

When communal organizations were threatening to disrupt India's secular fabric in the 1990s, I studied India's history from the viewpoint of Gandhian secularism and wrote "Secular India, A Historical Quest", a 230-page review of how secularism got gradually established in independent India from mythological times through 1965. The English book became a reference for scholars and is quoted in later sociological papers.

I had already embarked on my first political novel on Internal Emergency of 1975-77 in 1999, when I quit my industry job and became a freelance industrial consultant. By 2007, I had completed and edited its final version called "The Plunge" when I happened to see an advertisement for Breakthrough novels on Amazon. I entered "The Plunge" into the international competition called the Amazon Breakthrough Novel Award: it won the sixth prize and also its publication by Amazon. The novel stood as a reference book for 1975-77 Emergency in a University in Europe.

IN January-February-March-April 2010, I wrote a serial dialogical humorous novel called Gaadhawageetaa in a local Marathi daily Punyanagari, which received regular feedback from all over Maharashtra.

In 2010-2011, I wrote character sketches every Sunday in the popular daily Lokasattaa for 14 weeks in the local dialect of Marathi called Warhadi. My pen-sketches used to carry my mobile number on which I received applause from readers throughout the 14 week period.

From 2013 to 2017, I completed the composition of my other Marathi novel Champoo which is awaiting publication.

Due to certain emotional turbulence, I could not write for close to four years; but of late, I have seriously got back to working in English and have opened up my faculty to whosoever needs help on English composition and I find that my four decade-long service of the two sisters 'English and Marathi' is useful to my clients.

Finally, a mention of my favorite writers: Franz Kafka, P.L. Deshpande and Milan Kundera, to whom I owe a lot.

Work Terms

I work throughout the day, taking breaks for chores; I welcome communication of all types. I prefer 6-8 weeks contracts for fixed price or an hourly rate.
