Expert Mandarin-English Linguist (Medical Translation - specialize in Ob/Gyn)
Hi there,
I received 12 years of education in China (high school diploma). I lived in the US for 12 years and obtained a bachelor's degree in digital marketing communication. Mandarin Chinese is my first language but I've been learning English with a private tutor since I was 9 and I was fluent in English before my family immigrated to the US.
I was certified as a community interpreter at the beginning of my linguistics career. I’ve been a Mandarin Chinese interpreter for 5 years and I have almost 4 years of onsite interpretation experience mostly for UPMC hospitals. I was exposed to a wide range of cases/areas such as hospital birth, palliative care, psychiatric rehabilitation, physical therapy, etc. In the meantime, I also did translation work on medical records, diagnosis, imaging, and consent forms. For medical translation, I’d like to specialize in women’s health Ob/Gyn.
I not only have translated forms, letters, brochures but also have recorded voiceover and robocall for the local public schools. I speak with standard accents in Mandarin Chinese and American English.
I developed an interest in poetry since my mid-20s. After studying Turkish for 2 years, I can now read and write poems in Turkish with a dictionary. I'm in the process of completing my TEFL license and I'm currently volunteering as an ESL teacher for Turkish speakers at a local literacy non-profit. I also serve as a guest host for a Chinese conversation club once in a while.
