Professional Editing for Writers, Businesses, Publishers, and Academics
I am an accomplished developmental editor, copyeditor, proofreader, and resume writer who provides a variety of services. My work has helped countless clients to gain admittance to a college, graduate, or professional school; be invited to a job interview; publish in literary, academic, and trade publications; sign with an agent; and more.
I write resumes, cover letters, and LinkedIn profiles that are designed to be compatible with employer Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS). I also offer assessments and professional critiques of literary fiction and nonfiction with tangible suggestions for revision. Additionally, I help writers to develop and refine their work at any stage of the writing process by editing and proofing manuscripts, articles, marketing materials, annual reports, dissertations, and everything in between for clarity and coherence. Furthermore, I write blog and social media posts, cover letters, scholarly articles, journalistic pieces, web content, and creative pieces.
I have edited creative work by Robert Vivian, Philip Dacey, Mariko Nagai, Andria Williams, Simon Perchik, Joyce Dyer, Karl Elder, and James Grabill, among others, and I have also interviewed Chad Harbach (author of The Art of Fielding).
My essays and poetry have appeared in numerous literary journals, including Sonora Review, Fugue, Dos Passos Review, Oyez Review, and Steam Ticket. I am the owner of Signe Jorgenson Editorial Services, and I serve as Co-Editor in Chief at both Pebblebrook Press and Stoneboat Literary Journal.
More information about me, my services, and my editing work can be found on my website.
Work Terms
I work up to 45 hours per week, typically Monday-Friday but will work weekends if necessary to meet a project deadline. My preferred method of communication is email, but I also use Skype and telephone to consult with clients as needed.
I bill weekly for hourly projects. For flat-fee projects, 50% is due up front and the remaining balance is due upon completion of the work.
All invoices are payable within 15 days. I apply interest if payment is not made within 30 days, at an interest rate of 2 percent per month or partial month, including the month following the invoice date. No interest is due if payment is made by the fifteenth day.
Because I book projects in advance and therefore will turn down work if I've already allotted time for your project, I charge a cancellation fee of 50% of the project total. In the case of hourly projects, the cancellation fee is 50% of the rate quote. The fee is due within 15 days of cancellation, and interest rates for late invoices apply as described above.
