Portraiture: "Drawing a slice of life".

For José, the fascinating world of art came to life at the tender age of four. Inspired by his father, Francisco, who served as his first art teacher, he knew early on that the paintbrush and easel would be his life-long tools. He has been drawing ever since.Born and raised in Southern California, Jose’s studio is located in the Whittier home he has shared with his wife and son for more than twenty years.

While a senior in high school, Jose attended, Art Center College of Design in Los Angeles, (before it was moved to Pasadena, CA). There he participated in program for high school students. The classes met on Saturday mornings. He studied life drawing.

He was mostly influenced by illustrators such as Norman Rockwell, J.C. Lyendecker, Bob Peak, Richard Amsel and Drew Struzan. In 1985, Jose was one of twenty five artists chosen to attend a week long workshop given by Drew Struzan. Drew’s work is widely recognized throughout the world for his movie poster art.

In 2005, His cover art for Lost in the Sun, garnered him a silver award in the Portfolios.com international awards.

José is a member of the Whittier Artists Association and Artist Community of Whittier (ACW).

One of the greatest joys I derive from portraits is the opportunity to capture a moment in time that bears special significance for my clients. Being able to observe their reaction and emotions when they see the finished product is truly worth the blood, sweat and tears I invest in each hour of production.

Using imagery and a variety of design elements, José begins to shape the subject's story. We look forward to telling your story.

Work Terms

I work in my home studio. My hours of operation are when I have projects for client to work on. The rest of the time is used for my personal work to submit to art competitions.

Pricing of artwork is based on a per square inch basis.
Simple, $1.00 per square inch
Moderate, $1.50 per square inch
Complex, $2.25 per square inch
