I am a passionate designer and writer with wide-ranging creative interests. My skills include design development, illustration, character design and storyboarding
Anytime somebody asks me when I started drawing, my earliest memories are of me as a three year old, scribbling on the walls of the rented apartment that my family lived in. When we finally moved out, my folks had to pay to get the house repainted - but I have loved drawing ever since. Those walls were my first drawing classes, and has lead to a lifelong addiction for doodling on any available surface around me.
As I grew up, I had a chance to develop my skills, and also acquired other interests. In college, I studied architecture, which helped me understand the design process better. Every creative act fundamentally involves several steps, from the original idea to the final articulation of it in some medium. College also introduced me to many different forms of art, such as theatre, photography, printing ceramics and illustration, and I noticed that in all these pursuits, the act ideation and then creation is essentially the same,
After graduation, I spent some time as a drawing instructor for recently-graduated high school students interested in pursuing architecture, and later worked as an teaching associate at the Rizvi School of Architecture in Mumbai. My subject was Basic Design - and both these experiences overall reinforced the idea that design thinking and principles are essentially the same across various fields of expression. It helped me get back to the basics - divergent thinking, an appreciation for aesthetics and understanding of various mediums.
In late 2015, I was fortunate enough to be selected for the finals of the Shelter International Design competition in Tokyo, finally winning second place. Finally, since college, I have been an avid writer - on various subjects both academic and non-academic. My role as the editor of the Wall Mag, an on-campus weekly magazine, allowed me to meditate and rant on various issues, and helped me find my voice as a writer. Today, I continue to write for my blog - www.streetshaveroots.blogspot.
