Like a fine wine... Good from the start and getting better over time.
Fell in love with IT in the fall of 1980 as a student. I left my physics engineering (more precisely Nuclear Fuel Engineering - MSc in 1985) career for computing, obtained my MSc degree in computing in 1989, since working as programmer, sysadmin, IT expert.
Main hobby is the innovative use of IT, and as a side effect I have more than two decades of experience in computer driven DTP, CAD/CAM, GIS. In 1994 finally reached the Internet. Since then I have mastered tons of Internet related things, from open source software, community building, software localization, and, of course, websites. Various sizes and shapes, from one page straight HTML to sites with more than 1000 pages, different dynamic solutions, database driven sites, multilingual sites, DHTML, Java, etc.
I'm always experimenting to find new solutions (currently Joomla is the favorite pet's name) and yes, the "worst" that can happen to such a person happened to me too: I was teaching all these topics for 10+ years at one of the oldest universities of my country, having 2 academic course books released (Networks and Web Authoring is one, Communication and Security on the Internet is the second). From here comes one of my nicks, my students used to call me "Yoda Professor", and I am sure not because I'm a small person with some giant hairy ears ;). Another side effect is the 10.000 plus Google hits on my real name, and also a considerable amount of hits on my nick "webGóbé".
Currently I'm a proud member of two Joomla core teams - the Extension Directory Team and Community Translators Team - , over years I had 30+ extensions listed in the official Joomla repository and have more, than 10.000 forum entries in various Joomla forums. The newest service I offer for my Joomla clients is developing complex custom components for them.
WordPress is also part of my portfolio, embraced this capable CMS also for more, than 10 years ago, and also have a great numbers of sites built with that.
Work Terms
I have clients from all over the globe, so my work schedule is flexible, tailored to the needs of actual projects. But my main operating time is in the usual business hours in Europe (8-18 GMT on workdays). I am running my own servers (real hardware, no VPS-es) located in mainland US, since most of my clients are from North America, but the European and Australian ones together also making around 40% of my clients. I am providing security services (dehacking, site auditing, hardening, surveillance and security upgrades) for Joomla and WordPress sites, so basically I am online - or at least reachable - most of the time.
For new clients I always ask for escrowing/downpayment at least 30% of project's total amount - no exceptions. For older, proven clients other arrangements are available. I am looking for long term relationships, and not for some quick money for tasks which could be performed by any script kiddies. I am a pro with proven background and prefer to work with people who are appreciating this.
I am available on the most social channels, but I prefer WRITTEN communication over VOICE - the log of communication is a great resource during a project. I keep a strict worklog, and open to time based project fees too, where is appropriate. But trust me, for really interesting and challenging jobs the time spent on fixing things is marginal. The expertise and the quality of outcome is more important, so, bottomline, I prefer per project fees. If a project take more, than two weeks, etapizing it with intermediary phases - and payments for EACH phase - is the solution.
If you look for someone who accept payment ONLY at the end of larger projects, then I am definitively not the one you are searching for.
