Your passion fuels my drive to excel.
I wanted to be an architect when I was 14 years old. There was a summer program I could have gone to but you had to be 16. I instead nurtured my creative tendencies through other avenues. I started playing The Sims computer game and became obsessed with designing homes. I would take graph paper with me to school so that i could design home layouts to scale at school between classes or in free time. Then I would get home and execute my floor plans in the game and feel so satisfied with my accomplishment.
Fast forward to 19 years old. I had forgotten about my architectural love and was mostly just trying to find my way in life. I was on my way to work, a secretary, when I heard an advertisement for the local community college to get an Associates Degree in Drafting Technologies. It instantly reminded me how much i loved drafting. The next semester I enrolled full time and loved every minute of it. I had completed a full year of school before I rand out of money. Determined not to take out a student loan; I had decided to join the Military and figure out my degree later.
Four years later, I had a new baby boy with a husband who was also in the military. I decided to discharge and raise my child with plans to complete my degree shortly. I did complete my associates degree 2 years later, obviously with a break in there for motherhood.
Present, I am currently employed at a wonderful electrical contractor in Michigan where I have learned so much. I don't get as much design work as I would like so I'm reaching out to lend my design skills to others who need it.
