A detail-oriented and dilligent perfectionist motivated by problem solving.
Entering the final year of my degree in physics, it becomes increasingly clear that problem solving (of many forms) is what brings me the most satisfaction in life. To call me a perfectionist would likely be an understatement. This sounds like a wholly positive word, but it has drawbacks when you're sixteen and measuring the width between every item on display because your manager said to 'neaten up the shop floor a little'.
Although my efficiency at work has improved since then, my feelings towards what I do have not changed. I like everything I work on to be completed perfectly. Few things bring me greater joy than zoning into a challenging task. Whether it is writing an agorithm, solving a physics problem, creating an animation, or even planning a route of travel, problem solving motivates most of my interests. In addition to coding languages, I also have a love for spoken languages; I began learning Italian independently in my early teenage years, communicating it up to a proficient level and continuing to consolidate my knowlege regularly.
I began working at the age of thirteen. My work history consists of flyering, waitressing, retail, transcribing, property surveying and tutoring. The latter two roles have been my longest positions, spanning over two and three years respectively. As an assistant property surveyor, I was able to apply mathematics knowlege and some statistical analysis to research, whilst also improving my management and communication skills with clients. I enchanced these skills when working as a tutor. In this time, I had the pleasure of teaching over twenty students in one-on-one sessions over three years, primarily in mathematics, English, and science. Learning to teach has become invaluable in my self-development, and an overall enriching experience. In particular, learning to adapt lessons to different ages, abilities, and learning styles has allowed me to craft new approaches to problems and diversify my skillset.
