I'll always tell you the truth, even if I don't get the job.
I've been a Unix systems programmer since the late 1970s, working primarily in the C programming language. Most of this has been in the area of system utilities and libraries written for the use of other programmers, and especially in TCP/IP client-server communications. I've written code for FreeBSD, Linux, AIX, Tru64, Ultrix, and other systems.
Along the way, I've written everything from device drivers to compilers and interpreters and a small standalone operating system. I've written code in some 10 different programming languages and at least 4 assemblers, on a number of different hardware platforms and operating systems.
You can check on my coding style and programming proficiency by finding and downloading xsky, an interactive astronomy star catalog display program written for the X Window System.
I believe in writing simple code, avoiding complex programming constructs, that is well-commented. This makes maintenance and modification easy, not only for me but for the next programmer who is tasked with working on the software.

I prefer communication by email; it provides a written record for both of us. Payment terms are negotiable.
