Challenge driven Senior IT leader with a passion for building winning teams that provide added value by innovating through technology
A Senior IT Director with 20 years in the IT industry, starting his career as the ‘IT Guy’ in a small startup in the UK. He moved to the US in 1997, building custom solutions as a developer, architect, and managing consultant. He was recruited by one of his clients; Walgreens, as a development manager over pharmacy claims benefit systems. Eighteen months later he became the group’s Director and oversaw multiple systems supporting real-time pharmacy transactions for over 50,000 chain and independent pharmacies across the nation.
Simon joined another major retailer as a Director in 2010 to lead Pricing Systems development and operations. He was supporting all company brands and 30+ separate business units. His team led the company's transformation from legacy mainframe systems to Hadoop and was the first to leverage Big Data Open Source technologies in production for both analytics and transactional processing. These use cases helped drive the way for the inception and growth of new company subsidiary which provides services to companies who want to exploit big data tools. Simon was later promoted to Senior Director and is now leading the Marketing Technologies and Targeted Interactions teams.
Simon also leads the team that initiated and developed an internal global technology conference hosting over 600 onsite, and several hundred more remote company associates across the nation and globe. This two-day annual conference enables associates and groups from across the organization to come together to collaborate on new technologies and share successful use cases. Since the first event it has spawned year-round collaboration, learning, and innovation.
Simon likes new and interesting challenges and addresses them by building winning teams that innovate through technology. He has extensive knowledge of building and supporting highly available enterprise systems that process very large amounts of data.
