I support students to navigate the academic landscape with confidence. My goal is to advise and assist them in reaching their full potential.
I started my profession with buildOn as a Program Coordinator position. BuildOn is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to break the cycle of poverty, illiteracy, and low expectations through education and service in the South Bronx. As the program coordinator for buildOn, I designed lesson plans and workshops to teach students about the social and political issues within their communities, while helping them overcome their social issues. At buidOn, my responsibility was to provide positive resources for selected public high schools to better their attendance and graduation rates through service learning. I coordinated volunteer opportunities for the students such as volunteering at soup kitchens, food pantries, homeless shelters, tutoring, and so on. We also recruited students to travel overseas to participate in providing academic resources (building schools) for third-world countries such as Mali, Malawi, Burkina Faso, Senegal, Nicaragua, Haiti, and Nepal. I have successfully led two teams of high school students to participate in building schools in Nicaragua. This experience led me to attain my first degree in Youth Studies, which I received in May 2018.
At iMentor, I am currently responsible for the 11th and 12th-grade cohort. I manage pair communication and relationships with students and mentors. Through the program, I am progressing with this cohort while facilitating curriculums that include resume building, graduation requirements, enrichment opportunities, SATs, college lists, writing personal statements, FAFSA, CUNY vs SUNY, and more. This ignited my passion for higher education. I then received the Advanced Graduate Certificate in Higher Education Administration to enhance my skills in, post-secondary advising and administration. Being in my current role as a Student Success advisor has encouraged me to want to participate more in this setting. I am now transitioning my graduate certificate into a second master’s degree, which I am completing this December 2024. In my role, I advise pre-health science students to register and understand the expectations for their desired program. I assist in setting up their academic goals by developing advising workshops and digital learning opportunities. In closing, I would like to say that I would very much like to bring my knowledge and experience to further my professional growth within your organization. I am keen to schedule an interview with you so that we can discuss the position in greater detail. Thank you.
