Editing and Proofreading

The cacophony of student life reverberated through the halls, a symphony of laughter, deadlines, and the endless clicking of keyboards. I sat at my desk, the neon glare of the screen illuminating my face as I stared at my bank account balance—empty, yet again. Tuition, rent, groceries, the occasional night out with friends... It all added up. As a college student, it was clear that I needed to find a way to earn some extra income. I didn’t want to burden my family, and juggling a traditional part-time job with my class schedule felt like an impossible task. The question lingered in my mind: What could I do to make money?
That’s when it hit me. I had always been good with words, particularly with spotting mistakes. Whenever a friend had an essay or research paper due, they’d send it my way for a quick proofread. I’d correct their grammar, offer suggestions on sentence structure, and polish their arguments. What if I could turn this into a business?
The idea seemed simple enough. I would offer my services to fellow students for a small fee—editing, proofreading, and giving feedback on their written work. I wasn’t entirely sure if people would be willing to pay for something they could ask a friend to do for free, but I decided to test the waters.
I started small, creating a few discreet flyers and posting them on campus bulletin boards, in the library, and near popular study spots. The message was clear and to the point: “Need help polishing your paper? I offer affordable proofreading and editing services. Fast turnaround and student-friendly rates.”
At first, there was silence. Days went by with no inquiries. I wondered if I had misjudged the demand for this type of service. Maybe people really didn’t care about grammar or structure as much as I did. But just as I was starting to doubt my plan, I received my first text to be corrected.
I’ll never forget the feeling of excitement as I opened her document. Her writing was solid, but there were areas that could be improved. I went through it line by line, correcting grammar, tightening sentences, and offering suggestions for more clarity. When I sent the revised document back to her, I felt a rush of satisfaction.
The next day, she thanked me profusely and handed me a crisp twenty-dollar bill. It wasn’t much, but it was a start. More importantly, she told her friends.
What started as a modest side hustle soon became something more. I wasn’t just the guy who proofread papers for a few extra bucks. My inbox was constantly filled with requests, and I had to start turning people away or extend deadlines to manage the workload.
The skills I had developed—attention to detail, time management, communication—were transferable to any career I chose and help other people.

Work Terms

I will be able to work 5 hours every day and I will make sure that the work submitted is of the highest quality.
The work will have to be paid after it is completed on my Revolut account.
I prefer written communication on Instagram or Whatsapp platforms, from 6 pm to 10 pm.
