Anything that involves writing I can do it!
I often share my "Champagne to Pancakes" story because it illustrates perfectly what drives me.
I was responsible for corporate sponsorships and major gifts for a gala that met it's goal of raising 1.5 million in one night. Held in an exclusive hotel overlooking the Pacific Ocean, the setting was magical. Picture big hair, fancy dresses, champagne towers, a full production that included all of the top names in sports being entertained by American Idols. I watch a puppy being auction for $40,000. I felt good about my role in the evening and went to home to get a little rest before volunteering the next morning with another nonprofit.
This time the setting was completely different. A nonprofit based in an urban neighborhood just skirting "Skid Row". The idea was to sell pancake breakfasts to raise money for the afterschool computer lab. I had a blast getting to know the other volunteers, burned a few pancakes and laughed with neighbors and friends. We barely raised $1,000.
This was the switch. I knew that this was wrong on every level. I knew that something had to change. That's when I developed my unique approach to fund development. I took what I've learned at large institutions and crafted it to the needs of small grassroots organizations. I've also taken what I've learned from small grassroots organizations to larger organizations as well. This is when I put it all together. This is when I saw that when the right intent is paired with a clear mission, only positive results can happen.
MISSION. INTENT. RESULTS.
I know that I've been fortunate to garner experience in nearly all forms of fundraising – city and state funding, corporations and foundations, major gifts from individuals, endowment and capital campaigns, individual sustainer programs, direct mail, gala events and house parties .
