Professional editing with a personal touch.
I've been working as a freelance editor for over twenty years. During that time, I've also worked for three publishing companies. I have helped hundreds of authors see their potential and expand their horizons over the course of countless manuscripts.
My editing style is educational, meaning that when I make a change, I explain why. One client told me, "Your edit taught me more than the four years of English I took in college."
My style is also classic, meaning that I rarely allow a sentence to end in a preposition or any other such horror, but I also believe that writing shouldn't be stiff. I show my clients how to reword their sentences so they're both grammatically correct and have an easy flow.
When I make a correction, you can be assured that I've double-checked to make sure that correction is accurate. If I make a statement that's a matter of opinion, I will let you know that it's my opinion only.
Above all, I strive to maintain the author's voice. I believe that the editor should be invisible - the author is the steward of their own work, and while the editor makes professionally based suggestions, the author is ultimately responsible to accept or reject those suggestions.
Work Terms
I do not work with horror or erotica, preferring instead to work on projects that would be considered PG-13 or less. I edit all other genres including nonfiction.
I work in Microsoft Word using track changes, and I dislike Google docs very much. I would prefer to email the document.
I'm looking for clients who have already done a self-edit and want to bring their skills up to the next level.
