I am an IT professional with a focus in security, and have just received my Master of Science degree in Computer Science from the University of Southern California.
Aside from my work experience, I have been fortunate enough to gain a great deal of relevant experience through my undergraduate education as well. During my time at American University, I made it my goal to challenge myself as much as possible from start to finish, regardless of the effect that the level of difficulty of these classes might have had on my overall grade point average. Along the way, I got the opportunity to work on two major projects that would define my undergraduate experience. The first, conducted alongside Drs. Casey and Black of the Mathematics and Computer Science departments, respectively, built upon the professors' earlier work on finding closer probabilistic computations of values of the Riemann Zeta Function. This function is important to number theory when calculating the distribution of prime numbers and computing series. My contribution to this project was a program written in the Python programming language which was able to distribute the computation of these values across a parallel computing network. The second was designing a MATLAB program to simulate an algorithm that was recently published by Dr. Casey called the Equidistributed Modified Euclidean Algorithm, or EQUIMEA. We recently formulated a proposal for funding from the NASA Space Grant Consortium to use this simulation and algorithm in finding the periodicity of star pulses from sparse data. My most recent work was a directed research with Professor Clifford Neuman in the vulnerabilities of Cyber-Physical Infrastructure. This focused on the older SCADA systems that comprise a large portion of legacy computing infrastructure for highly critical civil infrastructure such as water treatment plants and nuclear power facilities.
